Worksop Neighbourhood Policing Team is encouraging cyclists to not just lock their bikes, but to also security mark them.
The team are holding a series of cycle marking events throughout the summer to support this, with every bike marked also being entered onto the Bike Register Database, a national register of bikes and their owners.
The unique security mark each bike receives will identify it, should it be stolen, helping the police to return it to its owner should it be recovered.
Cyclists are also able to access the database to mark their own bike as stolen, or to check the status of a bike they are considering buying.
Bike marking kits can be purchased from Bike Register, but the service is being offered free of charge at the cycle security marking events.
The third event is being held at Welbeck Garden Centre on the A60 Mansfield Road on Sunday 21st July. The team will be there from 10.00am to 2.00pm. This will be followed by an event at Manor Farm, Oldcotes on Sunday 11th August.
Their final event of the year will be held at Torworth Grange, Torworth on Sunday 15th September.
For details of these and other events they are invited to where this facility will be available, keep an eye on the West Bassetlaw Police Facebook page.
