Worksop Library Fun Palace 2025

The hugely successful Fun Palace returns to Worksop Library on Saturday 4th October from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Go along and try out different art, science, music and cultural activities aimed at anyone of any age – all for free! Have fun making and creating with the Harley Gallery, BCVS and From the Heart Charity. Enjoy nature-themed crafts from Worksop’s Oasis Centre, Mr Straw’s House and Clumber Park National Trust. Try out Ignite’s amazing science tricks and drop in to see the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s incredible robot dog. Have a go on ABL Health’s smoothie bike. Grab a headset and be amazed by seven thrilling virtual reality experiences, including Wallace and Gromit in The Grand Getaway. Experience sensory play with Now Church, and enjoy Little Creatives fun especially for under-fives. Join in with musical performances from the magnificent Red Hot Band. Plus, enjoy recycling games with Veolia, vintage toys from Aurora, badge making, giant games, and much more. Entry to Fun Palace is free and no booking is required – simply turn up and take part in the activities. Jazz Steps Live: Stuart McCallum

Having previously wowed library audiences across the county, Stuart McCallum returns to Worksop Library on Tuesday 14th October at 7.30pm (doors open at 7.00pm). A phenomenal performer on acoustic and electric guitars (plus effects pedals), Stuart’s solo performances captivate in their variety and story-telling qualities. With multiple albums to his credit, he is one of the most vital and creative musicians of his generation.
This is an adult event and under-18s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £13.00 and booking is highly advised.

Heritage Talk: Historic Gardens of Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire has a strong horticultural tradition going back to the creation of the great ducal estates of Welbeck, Clumber, Worksop and Thoresby in the 17th and 18th centuries. This talk, taking place at the library on Wednesday 15th October from 2.00pm to 3.00pm, draws on the wealth of gardening heritage remaining in the county. Philip Jones, a former local studies librarian, is now a freelance garden historian currently researching the Victorian and Edwardian gardens at Newstead Abbey and its head gardeners. Tickets for the talk are £3.00 and booking is essential.

Author Event: Milly Johnson

On Wednesday 22nd October at 7.00pm, join Milly Johnson as she celebrates the publication of her 23rd novel and new Christmas book Let the Bells Ring Out, published on 23rd October 2025. Tickets for the event are £5.00 and booking is highly advised.

Family Theatre: Made by Katie Green Presents The Story Detectives

Are you ready for a challenge? Love a good adventure? Fabulous at finding letters? Join the Story Detectives Playful and Particular as they embark on an exciting dance journey through the library, collecting letters, solving clues, and creating a unique adventure. This family theatre show, happening on Thursday 23rd October at 2.00pm, is perfect for children of all ages, especially three- to eight-year-olds and their grown-ups. It is a free event but booking is highly advised.

Children’s Author Event: Badgers Are Go! with Susanah Lloyd

Badgers pass unnoticed among us, piloting badger-operated persons and getting things jolly well done. But are you ready to begin your studies in Badgering for Beginners? Go along to the library on Thursday 29th October at 2.30pm and design your very own badger-operated person with new, improved features, and play Top Trumps with the characters. The event is suitable for ages seven to 11. Tickets are £3.00 for children and accompanying adults are free. Booking is advised.
