Worksop Armed Forces Weekend will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June, from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Worksop Rugby Club, located on Stubbing Lane. This two-day event promises fun-filled activities and attractions for all the family, admission is completely free and there is ample parking with no charges.
Hot food options will be provided by the Rugby Club and Elevated Pizza. Visitors can also indulge in delicious treats from Manfredi’s ice-cream and Treat Yourself by JC. There will be a wide array of attractions for all the family including face painting, archery sessions and numerous militaries stands showcasing history and equipment.
For vehicle enthusiasts, there will be an impressive display of 1940s vehicles, featuring Willis Jeeps, a 1974 Standard MJ-A1 and a 1940s RAF car. Additionally, visitors can marvel at a diverse collection of motorbikes from the RBL Riders and local Split-Links motorcycle clubs. Don’t miss aircraft cockpits from Yorkshire Aircraft Museum for you to have a look at and even maybe sit in.
The entertainment line-up includes live performances from the classically trained Lily Taylor-Ward. There will be singing from Linda Robin and the Lahdidah Vintage singing group, two amazing local brass bands, Miners Welfare Band and Blidworth Band who have always supported us. On Sunday, the pipes and drums of the Seaforth Highlanders will enliven the atmosphere with their stirring music.
The 16th Lancer’s mounted display troop will perform both Saturday and Sunday, recreating Victorian and First World War British cavalry. They aim to entertain and educate, whilst providing a vivid glimpse into the lives and traditions of cavalrymen from these eras. Through authentic uniforms, equipment and horsemanship demonstrations, they bring history to life for audiences of all ages.
Armed Forces events became popular when ‘Veterans Day’ was introduced in 2006. The title changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009 and continues to be celebrated each year. Worksop host one of the largest events for Armed Forces Day events across Nottinghamshire. Organised by the Worksop branch of the Royal British Legion, it serves as a chance to honour the contribution of servicemen and women past, present and future, and strengthens local pride in supporting our Armed Forces.
The event is a celebration of the commitment and sacrifices of our Armed Forces. The whole community is invited to join this remarkable event and share in the festivities. Whether you are enthusiastic about military history, love live music, or simply want to enjoy a family day out, this event promises something for everyone!
