Although the last Worksop Archaeological and Local History Society (WALHS) report said that there would be no meetings in July or August, in fact members were notified that there would be another walk around Worksop in July, guided by Malcolm Dolby, starting at Victoria Square. This was attended by about a dozen members.
Malcolm had a lot of historical facts and pointed out the remains of historic old buildings around that area and along the canal to the library and the River Ryton. Members were also able to offer additional information and this proved a most interesting and friendly get together. Everyone managed to learn something new about their home town.
The next meeting will be on Thursday 22nd September. This will be the AGM and will be followed by a speaker – details still have to be confirmed. Doors will open at 7.00pm and tea and coffee can be made available if required. There is adequate parking behind the building.
Meetings are quite informal and visitors or new members are all welcome. The group meets every fourth Thursday; meetings are held at the Poplars Church (formerly The Golden Ball) and start at 7.00pm. Membership costs £6.00 for the year and each meeting costs £2.00, whilst visitors would pay £3.00 per meeting.
