In April, Worksop Archaeological and Local History Society (WALHS) welcomed speaker David Dawson to talk on the subject of ‘Toys in Granny’s Attic’. He brought along a selection of toys evoking reminiscences and memories in the minds of many members.

He and his wife had both come across many train sets, dinky cars, Meccano and the like from their childhood homes and shared an interest in collecting more and interacting with many other collectors around the world. He explained how some of these toys were developed and changed over the years from their first inception: changing size, materials, colourings and obviously, with the toy cars, a constant increase in models as the car industry itself grew. The value of the rarer models was quite amazing in some cases, especially if any still had the original boxes.

On 23rd June it is hoped there may be a guided Worksop walkabout with Malcolm Dolby (TBC).

There will be no meeting in August and the AGM will be held on 22nd September followed by a speaker to be confirmed.
Meetings are held at Poplars Church in Worksop. Doors will open at 7.00pm and tea and coffee are available. There is adequate parking behind the building if required.

Group meetings are quite informal and visitors or new members are all welcome. Membership only costs £6.00 for the year and each meeting costs £2.00, whilst visitors would pay £3.00. Meetings usually take place on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm (2.30pm for months December to February).
