Worksop Archaeological and Local History Society

The speaker at the October meeting of Worksop Archaeological and Local History Society was Emily Gillott, a familiar and much-enjoyed guest, who once again captivated members with her enthusiastic talk on recent developments in Nottinghamshire archaeology.
Emily highlighted how the organisation is now more involved in planning applications, ensuring that potential archaeological sites – such as ancient earthworks, roads, or water systems – are properly investigated before any building work proceeds. A notable example was the discovery of a previously unknown settlement at Celtic Point, where development had to be paused for archaeological exploration.

Meetings take place at Poplars Church (formerly The Golden Ball) in Worksop. They are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7.30pm during the summer, but from November meetings move to an afternoon start time of 2.30pm. Visitors are very welcome and can attend for £5.00 per meeting. Membership costs £10.00, with an additional £4.00 per visit. Car parking is available at the rear of the premises for members.
