Worksop Archaeological and Local History Society met on 23rd November at the Poplars Church (old Golden Ball) with speaker Ruthie Boyes on the continuing story of the Worksop Torso kept at the Aurora Centre.

Ruthie gave an insight into the Torso when the group visited the Aurora Centre in June, when she talked particularly about the funding obtained and work done to the old Worksop Library to make up the Aurora building. It now has all sorts of facilities to help cancer sufferers and their families together with a Heritage Hub covering a lot of Worksop town’s history.

In her November talk she talked more about the history of the Torso and how it arrived in Worksop and all the research done to find out more and the subsequent cleaning and display for all to see.

The meeting on 23rd January will be an Old Worksop afternoon when members are invited to bring along any items they may have to do with Worksop and its people and businesses so that everyone can participate.

The meeting will be at 2.30pm at the usual place. New members and visitors who are interested in local history are always welcome, paying just £6.00 as a member and £4.00 per visit for guests. Car parking is available at the rear of the venue.
