Worksop and District u3a’s groups have been running right through the summer, although for some members attendance has been restricted by childminding duties.

One of the smaller groups currently trying to attract new members is MahJong. The group meets twice a month at a member’s home. The traditional Chinese game of MahJong is easy to learn and fascinating to play. Similar to the western card game rummy, using beautifully engraved tiles instead of cards, MahJong is a game of skill, strategy and luck. Beginners and experienced players are welcome.

The u3a are very much looking forward to the speaker at their October monthly meeting. Barry Harper, who is a retired Chief Inspector, will speak about crossing the Great Slave Lake in Arctic Canada. He was a member of the first team to cross on skis in temperatures of -55 degrees centigrade. He has also walked to both the North and South Poles.

The monthly meeting is at Carlton Civic Centre on Thursday 20th October. Join them at 1.30pm and you’ll be able to have a cuppa before the talk.
