Inspirational speaker Emma Sheardown – a quadriplegic young lady with cerebral palsy – visited the u3a with her talk ‘No Such Word as Can’t’.
The talk detailed Emma’s story and how she overcame her disabilities – ultimately to become European Para Dressage Champion, but first simply to crawl, walk and talk. It is a testament to Emma that this story was told with a large degree of humour.
She began horse riding aged two to help her development, her first horse being a Shetland Pony. By 2004, with no horse of her own, she was selected to represent Great Britain in Madrid where she used an ex-bullfighting stallion.
As Emma explained how she has overcome bouts of depression, she truly showed her highs and lows – the challenges and triumphs possible from hard work and determination. A truly inspirational talk.
On Wednesday 26th June, North Notts Neighbourhood group, of which Worksop is a member, went to Sherwood Forest for a picnic. The weather was perfect – plenty of sun and a cool breeze to make it more comfortable. The weather stayed pleasant for the Travel Group’s trip to Whitby.
The August meeting will be led by Ali Watts, who last year presented a talk about Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Dogs will again be Ali’s subject.
The meeting will be held at The Civic Centre, Carlton in Lindrick on Thursday 15th August. It starts with tea and coffee at 2.25pm, with the speaker starting around 2.45pm.
