Whitwell Festival of Music began in 2009 as quite a small, one-day affair. It was free and all the bands played for free. This year is its ninth and with each year it has got bigger and more ambitious.
It’s not all about music; there have been workshops for the children, belly dancing flash mobs, medieval displays, and stalls selling anything from blow-up guitars to hippy beads. This year sees the ‘Third Stage’ blossoming into spoken word performances from host Sophie Sparham, our very own Shireoaks bard and the world famous Attila The Stockbroker.
you won’t be disappointed whatever your taste. There are over twenty artists playing over the weekend — OD Saxon and Slade UK will be rocking the outdoor stage whilst the seated indoor stage will provide you with a slightly more sedate atmosphere. Check out the website for full details, www.whitwellfestivalofmusic.org.uk.
The real ale bar is always popular and this year’s handpicked selection of excellent ales and ciders will satisfy you casketeers out there. The festival is not for profit. It is organised by Whitwell Forward and entirely volunteer-run. Each year profits are donated to local causes.
The festival runs from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September. Tickets are either for the full weekend or a day ticket on Saturday and are available from the Community Centre. Tickets for the weekend will sell out and can only be bought in advance. Tickets for just Saturday can be bought in advance but will be available on the day.
We also have a pair of tickets for the Saturday evening to giveaway. To be in with a chance of winning email your details to firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date Friday 17th August 2018.
