Easter Holiday Activities at the Museum

All activities run from 10.00am to 12.00pm then 1.00pm then 3.00pm unless otherwise stated. No booking required. Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult and remain under their supervision. Activities are free but donations are always welcome!

Easter Family Trail

Friday 29th March to Sunday 14th April, 10.00am to 3.00pm
Collect your Easter Family Trail sheet from the Discovery Centre before heading out towards the Mansion Site and Front Field to begin your adventure. With a mini festival vibe, challenge your friends and family to a game of crazy golf and practice your aim on the coconut shy. Can you balance your egg on the spoon without dropping it or hop like a bunny in the sack race? Don’t forget to look for the fairies hiding in the trees! Bring a picnic and relax on the benches under the star tent. Or, head indoors to the café or Clock Tower Parlour for a drink and a snack.When you’ve finished, return to the Discovery Centre to collect your chocolate Easter egg and make a seasonal craft to take home.
£3.00 per trail pack, booking not needed. Admission to the Park applies

Easter Escape Trail

Looking for something different this Easter? Do you like puzzles, riddles and clues? The Easter Escape Trail is designed for older children and adults who want to enjoy playing detective during the Easter holidays. Starting at the Information Point in the Turning Yard (next to the shop), this trail is like an outdoor escape room. Solve riddles to discover your next location, decipher codes and find hidden objects, all to uncover your final destination and claim your prize.

Hunt the Outlaw

Saturday 13th April, 1.00pm to 4.00pm
The Lazy Sheriff of Nottingham has declared that he and his guards are on their Easter Holidays. It is up to you, the public, to venture deep into the lush Sherwood Forest and track down each outlaw lurking within its ancient trees and concealed hideouts. You’ll navigate the forest’s winding paths and uncover the whereabouts of these notorious miscreants.

Recycled Creature Workshop

Wednesday 3rd April, 10.30am to 12.30pm
A creative workshop specifically for small hands. Craft your own creature with sculptor Michelle Reader in this children’s workshop. Michelle will encourage children to think creatively about the creatures who share their homes and gardens. From pets to pests, beetles to butterflies, children will work with Michelle to share stories of their animal encounters and to recreate them using recycled materials.
Tickets for this workshop are Pay What You Think: choose from £3.00, £5.00, and £10.00 tickets.

Family Fun Paint A Pot

Thursday 11th April, 1.30pm to 4.00pm
Choose a pottery blank from the Lucky Dip and get creative with our equipment and materials. There’s a wide range of pottery glazes, stamps, brushes, stencils, ceramics pencils, and much more to try.
There are three Lucky Dips to choose from:

  • Small: £6.00 per item – such as plant pots, coasters, salt and pepper sets, emoji faces
  • Medium: £8.00 per item – items like vases, pen pots, travel mugs, lanterns
  • Large: £10.00 per item – for example, piggy banks, toy soldier statues, serving platters, pet bowls

Children’s Pottery Workshop – Clay Creatures

A messy creative clay workshop for children aged five to 11. Has your child been inspired by Pottery Throw Down? In this one off session you will be shown how to form and join clay, before having a go at creating your own clay creature. You might choose to make a real animal, or an imaginary one!

Small Animals of the Ice Age Trail

Saturday 9th March to Friday 12th April
10 small animals are hidden around the Crags, and each has a secret letter. Collect all 10 letters and rearrange them to discover the mystery word. Once you’ve solved the word, return to reception to collect your chocolate egg prize.

Open Doors is a three-year programme of events organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council and funded by Arts Council England. Activities will be held at:

  • Lifespring Church Centre, 10.00am to 3.00pm: circus skills, face painting and soundLINCS hand drumming sessions available.
  • Dukeries Leisure Centre, 11.00am to 3.00pm: VR experiences with artist Samantha Peberdy and first birthday party sessions.
  • Ollerton Town Football Club, 12.00pm to 3.00pm: disc golf, face painting and Our Heritage on Tour, before their match kick-off at 3.00pm.

See one of the largest model railways in ‘O’ gauge, depicting The East Coast Main Line from Kings Cross to Leeds Central. The building of the present railway commenced in 1953 and covers 2,500 square feet, has over 1,200 feet of main line track and needs ten operators.

Countryside Lincs 2024

Make a Statement with your own Badge of Protest

Join sculptor and artist Daniel Jones in this Free intergenerational family workshop to create your own protest badge inspired by the ‘Remembering Rotherham Miners’ Strike, 1984-5’ exhibition. Be creative, have fun at this modelling workshop by making moulds from clay and designing and inlaying colour in to your own unique Protest Badge to take home.
