Muddy Fork, Retford’s gardening for wellbeing charity, is delighted to have been selected by Welbeck Abbey Brewery as its latest adopted local good cause. The brewery’s charity beer, Raising the Dough, is made using surplus sourdough bread from the Welbeck Bakery, reflecting its commitment to sustainability. The beer is produced in batches, and Muddy Fork will receive a 10p donation from every pint sold following the April ‘first pour’ at the Idle Valley Tap in Retford.
As part of the partnership, four representatives from Muddy Fork – two staff members, one trustee and one volunteer – were invited to the brewery to help fill casks from the latest batch. They spent time with Ellie and the Welbeck team, gaining an insight into the brewing process, including the role of hops, yeast, malt and water, as well as the skill involved in producing high-quality beer.
Muddy Fork continues to benefit from strong local support. Retford Rotary remains a valued long-term supporter, and their latest fundraising effort took the form of a well-attended fashion show at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor, provided by SOS Charity Fashion Shows. The proceeds will support Muddy Fork’s ongoing work.
Support from Welbeck Abbey Brewery, Retford Rotary and many other organisations and individuals helps Muddy Fork continue to provide a much-needed wellbeing service, bringing people together in a calm and welcoming natural environment.
Meanwhile, back in the garden, the beds are beginning to dry out after the winter months, although there is still work to be done. With spring in the air, the marsh marigolds are adding bright colour, while the polytunnels and cold frames are already filling with seed trays showing early signs of growth.
