Wednesday Memory Group – fancy volunteering?

by | 15 August 2024 | Support Group, Worksop

The Wednesday Group is primarily a social group for people with dementia, their carers, if they wish to stay with them, and some former carers who used to bring wives or husbands.

It’s a friendly group that enjoys a range of activities including bingo, chair exercises, quizzes, cards, dominoes and various other activities. There are regular visiting musicians – Retford Ukulele Group, The Littleborough Skifflers, Jessica Brett, Dave and Sandra to name but a few. They are all very popular.

The group also offers a two-course cooked lunch which is very much appreciated. The difficulty now is that there are more members than ever before, but no more volunteers. The group needs at least one more – ideally, two.

If you’d like to be a part of a lively, friendly social group, help out with the cooking and have a go at whatever else takes your fancy, contact Jan (details below) and arrange to go and see the group and whether you think you’d like to give it a try. Volunteers change lives – their own as well as other people’s – and derive a great deal of satisfaction in the process.

If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis, or you just want to know more and you think the Wednesday Group might be helpful, do get in touch.

For more information, contact Jan on 01777 709974 or 07969 180067 or email janwilliamson133@gmail.com for the latest on what the group is doing and current availability. There is sometimes a waiting list but not very often, and although they charge £10.00 per session to cover costs, that includes your lunch and your first visit is free.
