Wednesday Group celebrations

A fantastic buffet lunch, a royal family quiz and party games was how the Wednesday Group celebrated the Platinum Jubilee. Volunteers pulled out all the stops to make delicious sandwiches, trifle, cream cakes and lots of other irresistible goodies. One member even made everyone a commemorative jubilee bookmark!

Now that the worst of the pandemic is behind us, most of Wednesday Group members seem to be feeling rather more confident about coming out and mixing again. All turn up regularly to enjoy the company and activities on offer.

There are still a few vacancies, so if you think the Wednesday Group might be for you then please get in touch with them. It is primarily for people with memory problems, perhaps having a diagnosis of dementia. The group meets every week in Retford to offer lunch and a range of activities, all aimed at helping people to overcome isolation, keep physically fit and mentally alert.

They usually have a game of bingo and a quiz, followed by lunch. After that might be some music, maybe singing and dancing, or chair exercises and other activities with Sian. There are lots of active games – boccia, table tennis etc – and some more sedentary ones too, like dominoes and card games and occasional craft sessions.

It’s all about retaining skills and having a bit of fun. You can come on your own or with a friend or carer. There is a charge of £10.00 for each session but the first session is free – so get in touch and give it a try. You’ve got nothing to lose and maybe a lot to gain!
