July, and hopefully the weather will stay warm and dry enough for Wednesday Group members to indulge in some outdoor activities when the group gets a visit from their sports lady, Sian.
A few years since Sian turned up one day and announced that she’d brought a parachute with her! After a certain amount of quizzical and incredulous reactions, it turned out that Sian had brought was one of those parachutes that you see children in school playgrounds using.
They stand in a circle round the edge, hanging on to the handgrips and waving the parachute up and down as they all raise and lower their arms at the same time. It looks so easy! Everyone is having fun trying to stop the teddy bear from falling off the parachute, or changing places with the person opposite while the parachute is raised and hoping it doesn’t come down too soon.
It’s not until everyone stops that they notice they’ve had a very good workout without even realising it. That’s the way to do it! Not everyone is up to that level of physical activity but there’s always something on offer at The Wednesday Group to help keep people moving and enjoying life.
If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis and you think the Wednesday Group might be helpful, do get in touch. For more information, contact Jan on 01777 709974 or 07969 180067, or email janwilliamson133@gmail.com for the latest on what the group is doing and current availability. There is sometimes a waiting list, but not always.
