Summer BBQ favourites from Girlguiding

Time in the outdoors is a big part of the fun and adventures that young members and volunteers at Girlguiding enjoy. Outdoor cooking is always a very popular activity in their units.
Here are a couple of recipes that you can try on your own BBQ this summer.

S’mores

If you were ever a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide or Ranger when you were younger then the chances are that you’ve made s’mores… their name even comes from the fact that you will always want some more!
How to make them:

  • On a skewer toast one or two marshmallows over the embers of a BBQ
  • When they’re starting to go soft on the outside squash them between two chocolate digestives.

Chocolate Orange Cakes

How to make them:

  • Slice the top off an orange (keep it as this will be needed as a lid)
  • Scoop out the orange (be careful not to put holes in the skin)
  • Fill the orange with chocolate cake mix and put the lid on
  • Wrap the orange in a couple of layers of tin foil
  • Stand the foil package upright in the embers of your BBQ
  • Check after five minutes to see how cooked the cake mix is. If the cake mix isn’t cooked and fluffy yet return to the embers for a few more minutes. The time it takes to fully cook through depends on how hot the embers are!
