Singing with Dementia

On Wednesday 22nd September, the Singing with Dementia Group finally met again for the first time since the COVID lockdown. It was well-attended by people living with dementia and their carers from the local area and residents from care homes in the area.
The singing was led by ‘Nostalgia’ (Denise and Roger Marsden) who took members of the group on a musical journey through the 40s, 50s and 60s. Everyone joined in with the singing and playing percussion instruments.
During a welcome break for a hot drink and biscuits, people had opportunity to chat about past memories and get to meet others. There was also a prize-every-time tombola stall run by Linda Lees, which helps to raise funds for the group.
It was wonderful to meet up, be out in company and lift spirits singing well-loved songs. The afternoon was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The group meets each month and guest artists lead the singing. The next meeting is on Tuesday 26th October, followed by the Christmas Party on Tuesday 7th December with an old-time Music Hall planned.
The Dementia Café continues to meet at the Crossing Church, Worksop on Thursdays, from 10.30am to 12.00pm.
