The main fundraiser of the year is, of course, the annual duck race, taking place on the village green and in the village hall in Shireoaks on Sunday 22nd June. The event begins at 2.00pm, featuring crafts, tombola and children’s activities on the green, along with additional crafts, refreshments and homemade cakes available in the village hall.

The ducks will be released into the River Ryton at Cinderhill Bridge at 3.00pm. This year’s event will raise funds for both the Oasis Community Centre and the WI. The Oasis Centre, located on the site of a former youth centre and recreation field in Kilton, has transformed over the past 15 years into a vibrant, multi-functional community facility.

Funds raised from the duck race will be specifically allocated to support women experiencing domestic abuse, providing hygiene essentials for those who have left abusive relationships and are now in temporary accommodation.

Visitors are encouraged to go along and enjoy a fun-filled family afternoon in support of a meaningful local cause. Please note that parking in the village is limited. The Hewett Arms has kindly agreed to provide overflow parking in its grounds.
