Shireoaks and District WI meet in Shireoaks Village Hall on the third Thursday of the month at 7.00pm. Why not go along as a visitor and see what they have to offer? The first visit is free before you decide whether they are for you and join for the year.
They are a small, friendly and enthusiastic group of women and hopefully their programme has something of interest for everyone.
Their major fundraising event of the year was held in June and the weather was very kind. The Shireoaks WI annual duck race took place on the green and in the village hall in Shireoaks and they were able to donate £1,000 to Aurora Wellbeing Centres in memory of one of their members, Claire Purshouse, who sadly passed away earlier this year. She and her family used the resources at Aurora and the group hope that the money donated to them will enable other people with a cancer diagnosis to benefit, as she did, from art therapy classes.
Members recently enjoyed a daytrip to Southwell to visit the Archbishops Palace and gardens and also organised an afternoon tea at Shireoaks Sports and Social Club to raise funds for ‘Forget-me-nots‘ which is a dementia support group based in Tuxford.
