Ryton Chorale

Ryton Chorale are celebrating after a wonderful, uplifting concert before Easter.

The chorale performed Handel’s Messiah at The Crossing Church at the end of March. The choir, made up of over 50 singers, was conducted by Nicholas Thorpe, who has been a wonderful support to them over the last few years. English Pro Musica, a professional orchestra based at Nottingham Trent University, provided a chamber orchestra with their usual high standard and professionalism. Their leader is Melissa Woodhead, and the solo trumpeter was Kieron O’Brien. The four excellent soloists were Rachel Abbott (soprano), Charlotte Woodhead (alto), Alex Kirkland (tenor), and Andrew Randall (bass). Support on the organ came from the choir’s much-respected accompanist, Jack Pickford.

Nicholas Thorpe has been allowed to go into retirement again, after helping the choir while their resident musical director, Sierra Farquhar-Wulff, was on maternity leave. Now safely delivered of a son, Sierra is back to lead the choir to their next concert.

Worksop Priory will be the venue for the choir’s summer concert on Saturday 12th July at 7.30pm, and they will be joined by Whitwell Brass Band. So make sure to keep the date free.

This joint concert is an exciting venture, and more details will be available soon when tickets go on sale.

Meanwhile, further details about Ryton Chorale are available on the choir’s website, and if anyone would like to join, they are welcome to come along on a Monday evening to Holy Family School on Netherton Road in Worksop. Find more about the choir at www.rytonchorale.org.uk.
