Over the last few months, Worksop Rotary has been busy supporting local groups with funding from the Worksop Rotary Small Grants Scheme, as well as holding a social event in support of the Children’s Assessment Centre at Bassetlaw Hospital.
Senshin Ryu, a small karate class operating in Carlton in Lindrick, has enhanced its ability to build on previous successes in competitions with the help of a Worksop Rotary Small Grant. The grant has provided the opportunity to purchase a set of flexible mats, enabling the students to learn proper breakfalls and to work within the restricted area defined by the joined mats, which mirrors competition conditions.
Worksop Rotary is pleased to see the money they raise helping small groups that serve the community around Worksop, allowing them to flourish. Four members of Rotary were treated to a demonstration of the young people’s training at the Village Centre in Carlton, where they work hard to learn and improve.
When the Worksop Guides found that the cost of their proposed visit to Paris next year had suddenly increased significantly, they set about raising enough money to cover the gap. They also applied successfully to the Worksop Rotary Small Grant Scheme, and members of Worksop Rotary attended their meeting to present a cheque for £200 to support their efforts.
The Guides were using rounds cut from a tree branch to make decorative coasters, which they plan to sell at a Christmas Fayre, among other ideas to help contribute to the additional costs.
In October, 70 Rotary members and guests were entertained by the u3a Simply Swing Band and enjoyed supper together at Carlton in Lindrick Parish Centre. The event enabled Worksop Rotary to contribute £600 to the Children’s Assessment Centre waiting area project at Bassetlaw Hospital.
