The Retford Authors Group meets at the Best Western Hotel at 24 North Road, Retford DN22 7XG. They meet at 10.30am on the first Wednesday every month for coffee and cake, and at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday of every month for a social get-together.

The Group’s Annual Open Day is Saturday 8th June, 10.00am to 4.30pm, at Bassetlaw Museum, Grove Street, Retford.

The following authors will giving a short talk on the day:

  • 10.00am: Barry Upton – Writing Historical Fiction
  • 10.45am: Esther Chilton – Writing Short Stories
  • 11.30am: Robert Tansey – Exploring Family Genealogy
  • 12.15pm: Steve Shelley – Looking at the Environment Today
  • 1.30pm: Helen Hagon – Writing Poetry
  • 2.15pm: Richard Bower – Spiritual Poetry Writing
  • 3.00pm: Debbie Wilson – Gothic Victorian Fiction
  • 3.45pm: Lesley Keating – Gothic Romantic Fiction

Visitors to the Open Day will be welcomed with free tea, coffee, and biscuits. All the authors will have signed copies of their works on sale. Mingle around the book displays throughout the day, if you don’t want to listen to a talk.

Spend an enjoyable day at the Museum while seeing many of your local authors. Why not bring your family to see the children’s museum and 1900s school room? Immerse yourself in local history and see what the Pilgrim Fathers did. See the archaeological collection housed here. See the day-to-day clothes of ordinary people who lived in Retford so many years ago. Make it a day to remember.

The Group will also be at The Bawtry Arts Festival on Sunday 23rd June, 10.00am to 4.00pm, and Newark Book Festival on Saturday 13th July, 9.00am to 4.00pm, both at Market Place.
