Normally, Worksop WI meets on the first Thursday of every month at Worksop Cricket Club, off Central Avenue, at 1.45pm. But they are having a summer break in August, so their next scheduled meeting is on Thursday 6th September.
At this meeting they will be having a talk entitled ‘Rags to Riches: The Wardrobe’s Mistress’s Tale’, by Judy Colby. This talk is about costuming amateur dramatic productions on a shoestring, plus displays of costumes and accessories. They will have a Harvest Festival stall with goods to buy and a competition which will be ‘Something Recycled’.
The group has a varied programme of events, speakers and trips so if you think you would like to give them a whirl please come along and see what you think. There is a monthly lunch and craft club and they are about to organise a cinema club.
At their last meeting in July, members enjoyed an amusing talk by a local auctioneer, Peter Young. He told them about how he got started up in the business and had plenty of funny stories to tell of his time at one of Retford’s auction houses.
Some members visited Newstead Abbey with other member WIs where they had a tour of the poet Lord Byron’s home. It was very interesting to learn more of Newstead’s famous romantic poet and enjoy lunch in such a beautiful setting.
There are plenty of different activities to do in the WI and there will be something to appeal to everyone — for more information contact Chris John on 01909 473048 or simply come along.
