Over 60s Group

In October last year a new over 60s group was formed at the Thievesdale Lane Community Centre. It was the idea of Diane Raynor who, with a group of family and friends, decided to hire the centre on Sunday afternoon. This was arranged so that people over 60 who might feel lonely or need some social contact with other people could get together.

The meetings are held on Sunday afternoons as people often say it feels like the longest, loneliest day of the week. The meetings start from 1.15pm to 3.30pm on the second and last Sunday in the month. Various activities take place including quizzes, games and optional grocery bingo with time in between for chatting and enjoying a cuppa and a biscuit.

In November, Nostalgia (a keyboard / vocal duo) entertained the group with some well-loved 40s and 50s songs which got everyone up on their feet or joining in with the singing. Nostalgia also returned for a Christmas meeting with a selection of classic Christmas songs.

Numbers are steadily growing, but there is lots of room for more members. If this is something you would like to do, go along and join in on Sundays. £3.00 entry, which includes refreshments and a raffle. February meetings will be Sunday 11th and 25th. You can be sure of a warm welcome.
