The Oasis Centre on Longfellow Drive, Kilton, Worksop is a local charity with lots of projects helping many different groups.
There is something on every day. On Monday there is a Craft and Chat group from 10.00am to 12.00pm, and then on Tuesday at the same time is the Toddler Group (which has been running for over 30 years).

Also on a Tuesday and running from 10.00am to 12.30pm is the Gardening Group, which has support for anyone needing guidance to complete tasks. Those that attend help plant seeds and then plant out flowers and vegetables, which are sold to visitors and to the local community; anyone can pop in anytime to see the vast array of plants for sale. Gardening help is appreciated as it is a very large site!

On Wednesday there is another Toddler Group at 10.00am to 12.00pm and a Chatty Café at 11.00am to 2.00pm. Here the group all chat together as they drink tea and biscuits and have a light two-course lunch, all for £5.00 per person. Anyone is welcome; people who have memory problems and their carers and people who are lonely are warmly welcomed to give support to each other and make friends too.

On Thursday the Gardening Group is back at work and the café is open 10.00am to 2.00pm for anyone to visit. The café is open at the same time on Friday, and there is lovely children’s play equipment that is free to use.
Friday night is Treasure Kids at 6.00pm to 7.00pm, and on alternate Saturdays is the Treasured Kids sessions, which is a respite group for children with special needs. Please call at the Oasis Centre for further details for these sessions as numbers are limited.

On Sundays at 4.00pm there is a weekly church service; all are welcome.
There is a large Solar Dome where the group grows cacti and succulents, which is another project to help people who can’t manage to garden but want to gain from being with nature and talking to others. There are many ‘mini gardens’ for sale, all reasonably priced. All money goes back into the charity.

On Plantation Hill is The Edge, which is mainly for men who want to have some company, play pool and maybe get advice or information. It’s open Monday, Tuesday and  Wednesday at 10.00am to 1.00pm.

As if that weren’t enough, a creative writing group is starting. Anyone who has something to write about – an interesting life story, a visit, a holiday, job, hobby, sport, life, illness or how they overcame adversity… the list of possibilities is endless – can come and enjoy the creative environment to write a story or a poem. The group hopes to meet to discuss their work, either in person or via Zoom. Everyone is welcome; if anyone needs help getting their ideas down on paper, that help will be on hand.
The group hopes to put some pieces, if not all of them, into a book for others to read.
