Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – North Notts Local Group

by | 9 April 2024 | Wildlife, Worksop

As the weather warms this month, we begin to see more life in our ponds. We all recognise tadpoles and probably have since bringing our first jam jar full of them home – but there is lots of other wildlife lurking in and around the water!

The North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s April speaker, David Fox, will guide the group through some of the birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, plants molluscs and microscopic life they might expect to find on a visit to the pond, especially if armed with a pond dipping net.

David is a familiar face at Wildlife Trust meetings; he has given talks on a variety of subjects, including falconry and Kes. His talk on Pond Life is preparation for a ‘Pond Dipping for Grownups’ session, which will be organised as part of the Local Group’s summer activity programme. It will probably be held on the Idle Valley Nature Reserve but there may be sessions elsewhere. Hopefully, those who have attended David’s talk will be able to identify some of the creatures they catch – but if not, there will be experts on hand to help out.

The meeting will start at 7.15pm on Thursday 11th April at Idle Valley Nature Reserve, Retford. Admission is £3.00, which includes tea, coffee and biscuits. All welcome; no need to book. For more information contact Jan Williamson on 01777 709974, 07969 180067 or janwilliamson133@gmail.com.
