Despite a very damp start there are still lots of summer wildlife-related activities to be enjoyed in North Nottinghamshire.
The Idle Valley Wildlife Watch Group meets regularly on the second Saturday of the month at the Idle Valley Centre. It’s for kids between seen and 13, costs £2.00 each and lasts from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The next meeting is Saturday 13th July. There will be a walk on the reserve while participants hunt for ‘Natural Jewels’ – or dragonflies! For more information or to book, email Ros Schwarz at idlewatch@nottswt.co.uk.
For adults (members only) there is the possibility of a guided walk in a beautiful, private woodland that is managed entirely for wildlife. The owner will discuss his aims for the wood and explain the techniques he uses to achieve them. There will be an opportunity to do some pond dipping and, if the weather’s good, the day will end with a picnic and the chance to chat or ask any further questions about the wood and its inhabitants.
Gary Hobson of the North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust continues his exciting nature walks on the Idle Valley Nature Reserve. The next one will be on Wednesday 31st July, 9.00am to 12.00pm. Meet at Chainbridge Lane. Enjoy general birdwatching from Chainbridge Scrape East and West viewing screens.
Please use suitable clothing and footwear for the weather on the day plus food and water as required. Toilets and café facilities are available during usual opening times.
All walks are free of charge but cash donations to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust are very much welcomed. Donations can be given at the visitor centre or paid online via their website. For more information contact Gary Hobson on 07464 964879 or ghlbc@hotmail.co.uk.
