March brings the promise of warmer weather, and for gardeners, the excitement of sowing flower seeds to enjoy throughout the summer. Those keen to support wildlife may also be considering which seeds will help sustain the local insect population, and this is where the the North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s March speaker, Ed Cooke of Meadowmakers, can offer valuable inspiration.
Regular attendees may recall Ed’s talk on Wildflower Gardening last March, where he impressed with his enthusiasm, stunning photographs, and extensive knowledge of wildflowers. He also brought a selection of wildflowers for sale, which proved incredibly popular. This time, his talk will focus on butterflies, and his plant stall will feature a variety of butterfly-friendly food plants.
Many noticed a decline in butterflies in their gardens last year, which could have ongoing effects this year, making it more important than ever to support them. Attendees will learn how to create a more butterfly-friendly environment and help reverse this trend.
This meeting will take place at Idle Valley Centre on Thursday 13th March at 7.15pm. Entry is £3.00, which includes tea and biscuits. All are welcome, and there is no need to book.
