Happy New Year to all members of the North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, supporters and those who care for and about nature and wildlife.

Since last January, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has been intensely busy mapping a network of groups taking action for nature across the county. Research shows that if one in four people are taking action, it is likely that others will follow so it’s important now for all those of us who do act in nature’s interest to let everyone else know what we are doing. The good news is that it’s really easy to do. The Trust has created a map where we can share what we are doing and find out what others are doing too. So, if you’ve made a log pile for a hedgehog, planted a wildflower border, let the lawn grow in May or anything to benefit wildlife, well done and please let everyone know about it. This is the place to spread the word:

After the festive break, the North Notts Local Group will resume its series of talks beginning with ‘Wildlife in the Home’, their first talk of the year with Nigel Slater. Nigel has said: “We can’t keep wildlife out of our houses. This is a closer look at mammals, birds and insects who visit us there. Many are not welcome. The cat and dog bring some in and we accidentally release some from our shopping! You may have to look away at some pictures (if you don’t like spiders!).”

The meeting takes place at the Idle Valley Centre on Thursday 11th January, starting at 7.15pm. Admission is £3, which includes tea, coffee and biscuits. All welcome; no need to book. For more information contact Jan Williamson on 01777 709974, 07969 180067 or
