North Notts Chamber Choir – Summer Concert

Rehearsals are well under way for North Notts Chamber Choir as they prepare for their Summer Concert, which this year will be performed at St Mary’s Church in Tickhill. St Mary’s, a Grade I listed building dating back to 1109, has undoubtedly witnessed centuries of beautiful music, and the choir are keenly aware of the high standard required to do the venue justice.

One of the pieces being performed by the choir, accompanied by the church’s magnificent organ, will be very familiar to both the church and its audience. In the first half of the concert, the choir will perform all five movements of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, composed in 1890. The second half will feature a lesser-known work, Birthday Madrigals, although the name of the composer, John Rutter, is widely recognised. This piece, first performed in 1995, will be accompanied by piano and double bass – an unusual and distinctive pairing.

The soloists, drawn from final-year students at Worksop College, along with the musicians and choir, will all be under the baton of Music Director, Tim Uglow.

The concert will take place on Saturday 7th June, beginning at 5.30pm. Tickets are priced at £10.00 for adults, with free admission for children aged 16 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance from www.trybooking.com/uk/EUKK or on the door on the night.

Following the concert, the choir will take a summer break before returning in September to begin rehearsals for their Winter Concert, to be held in the Chapel at Worksop College in November. This year, they will perform Handel’s Messiah with a full orchestral accompaniment.

New members are always welcome, so anyone interested in joining the choir, or wishing to find out more, is encouraged to contact Tim Uglow at t.uglow@wsnl.co.uk.
