New beginnings and fond farewells

by | 7 July 2024 | Local Charity, Worksop

Aurora is a local cancer charity providing support in Bassetlaw for people living with cancer or a long-term health condition. They have a variety of support groups, counselling services, exercise classes and recreational activities on offer, not just for cancer clients but the general public too. They are a community hub with an in-house charity shop, heritage museum and tearooms.

Dee Sissons has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer at Aurora Wellbeing Services working across Bassetlaw, Doncaster, and Mexborough.

As Dee settles into her new role, she is keen to meet all involved in Aurora, as well as developing new relationships with other local organisations so please do get in touch if you would like to visit them, learn more about their work or help them raise awareness and funds for their Aurora sites.

After 12 years at Aurora, they are sadly saying goodbye to Debra Fores who has decided to retire. Debra was instrumental in setting up the Bassetlaw branch of Aurora Wellbeing based in the Old Library Building in Worksop, not only leading the transformation of the Old Library building in Worksop, but also the development of all the services that the Bassetlaw Aurora Centre now provides.

In a statement, Debra said: “I could not have done this without the amazing support of the fantastic team of staff, volunteers and partners. I am truly proud of what we have achieved and grateful to the people of Bassetlaw for all their support. Together we have created a centre for wellbeing in the heart of Worksop, a centre that will provide support and joy, and a centre that the people of Bassetlaw can be proud of.”
