Muddy Fork

Muddy Fork would like to thank the readers of this magazine for reading these articles each month and contacting the group because of them. They count themselves very lucky to have such great support from the local community.

This month Muddy Fork celebrated their volunteers with a pizza party down the garden. The grass was mowed, the bunting was hung and the pizza oven was working hard. Everyone had a great time and were blessed with lovely weather.

The group is proud to announce that to date Muddy Fork has donated 477 portions of fresh produce to people in the local community. All produce is grown in the garden with practically no carbon footprint. So far, they have harvested potatoes, rhubarb, beetroot, radish, spring onions, strawberries, cucumber and some lettuce. They have an honesty stand in the Idle Valley Nature Reserve car park and would like to thank anyone who has left donations.

All their produce is always listed on their Facebook page – just search Muddy Fork for updates. Why not give them a like and share if you are a Facebook user – help spread the word!

The salad tunnel is full to bursting with healthy strong plants bearing lots of fruit. The gardeners are patiently waiting for that first tomato to turn red, knowing the rest will follow soon after. They have already started to harvest the mini cucumbers (they are delicious) and there’s plenty of the larger variety growing too.

Not all the produce made it far as the table, however – the bunnies had a good feed off the carrots and beans. They are slowly rabbit-proofing all areas, but Rome wasn’t built in a day – and neither were the bunny fences.

Muddy Fork members are always happy to welcome visitors to the garden; look for the robin in the corner of the car park at Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford.
