As Covid restrictions finally seem to be easing, and normality slowly returns, the Worksop Light Operatic Society is getting back into its stride and preparing for the next full production.
Following their successful concert ‘Back in Lights’ last November, featuring a small cast and observing Covid rules, the Society is now back in full rehearsals for the full stage show ‘Made In Dagenham’.
This inspiring musical, set in 1968, tells the uplifting story of the women sewing the seat covers for Ford cars produced at Dagenham. A proposal by the management to downgrade their skill set, and therefore their pay, leads to a strike by the women which eventually brings production at the factory to a halt. Despite the best efforts of the American management to fight their claims for equality with the men at the factory, their persistence wins through. With the help of Barbara Castle in Harold Wilson’s government, progress towards ‘equal pay for equal work’ begins.
Including moments of comedy, typical British banter, some stirring musical numbers and touches of sobriety, this musical is based on a true story and includes something for everyone.
The show will be staged at the Acorn Theatre, Queen Street, Worksop from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st May. Performances begin at 7.00pm nightly, with a matinée on Saturday at 2.00pm.
