Lound Bird Club warmly welcomes anyone interested in birds and wildlife. The club enjoys sharing its passion and knowledge of birds, along with its interest in many other species found on Idle Valley Nature Reserve near Retford.
Illustrated talks take place on the fourth Wednesday evening of each month at Sutton-cum-Lound Village Hall, 38 Town Street, Sutton-cum-Lound, DN22 8PT. Doors open at 7.00pm and entry is £3.00.
The spring programme of Wednesday talks is:
- 28th January: Mike Vickers and Ian Cowgill – Birding through Montevideo to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula – including following in the footsteps of Sir Ernest Shackleton
- 25th February: Giancarlo Ferrari – The Galapagos Islands and the Rainforests of Ecuador
- 25th March: Gary Hobson – The Wildlife Year – A look at some of the other wildlife that can be found across the Idle Valley Nature Reserve
- 22nd April: Stuart Davenport – The Isles of Scilly – Tales of a Scilly Birder
The club also runs a year-round programme of free walks around the Idle Valley Nature Reserve – simply turn up and join in. - Sunday 11th January, 9.00am to 12.00pm: focusing on winter wildfowl in the northern section of the reserve
- Sunday 1st March, 9.00am to 12.00pm: meeting place to be confirmed
- Saturday 4th April, 9.00am to 12.00pm: meeting place to be confirmed
Walks (or more accurately, strolls) last up to three hours and are taken at a gentle pace to allow time to spot and enjoy the birds and the many other forms of wildlife found on the reserve.
There is no membership fee. Members receive the monthly Idle Valley Nature Sightings newsletter, which covers many aspects of wildlife activity across the reserve.
