Lound Bird Club warmly welcomes anyone interested in birds and wildlife. The club shares its passion and knowledge of birds and other wildlife.

Formed in 1990 by a group of enthusiasts who had been watching and recording birds in the Idle Valley, the club is now based around what has become a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to ‘the rich assemblage of breeding wetland birds and an exceptional diversity of breeding, wintering and passage birds’.
Monthly evening talks are held during the winter season on the fourth Wednesday of each month. These illustrated talks cover birds, other wildlife and natural history in Nottinghamshire, the UK and abroad.
Talks take place at Sutton cum Lound Village Hall, 38 Town Street, Sutton, DN22 8PT. Doors open at 7.00pm. Entry is £3.00.

The next talks are:

Wednesday 22nd October:

Andrew Pickles – The Birds and Wildlife of Kruger National Park, South Africa

Wednesday 26th November:

Ian Cowgill – Birding in Southwest Cyprus

The club also leads walks around the Idle Valley Nature Reserve. These walks last around three hours and are taken at a gentle pace, allowing members to enjoy seeing and hearing birds and other forms of wildlife. Migrant birds are now passing through before the wintering species arrive.
The next two walks are:

  • Sunday 2nd November
  • Sunday 11th January (both with a 9.00am start)

Walks are free and open to all. Membership: there is no membership fee. All members receive monthly Nature News bulletins covering many aspects of wildlife on the Idle Valley Reserve.
