Located on Central Avenue next to Priory Shopping Centre, Worksop Cricket and Sports Club (WC&SC) is the place to go for cricket, squash and flat and crown green bowls.

Cricket

The cricket team has existed since the beginning of the 1800s and at Central Avenue from 1900. From April to September, there is League Cricket on offer each Saturday. The 1st XI competes in the championship against local rivals, Retford and Anston, while the 2nd and 3rd XI plays in division 2 and 6 – new players are always welcome!

Outside of senior cricket Worksop Cricket Academy, launching in April with Lync Active, is an evolution in local cricket, designed to get local young people active and taking part in organised sport. ECB qualified coaches deliver quality cricket sessions to children from five to 15 years old, offering the opportunity to get into the game via Soft Ball ‘Kwik’ Cricket and real cricket in under-11, under-13 and under-15 age groups.

Bowls

There are two formats of bowls at WC&SC – Crown and Flat Green, which is a social game for all ages. Both sections of the Club are seeking new members and offering free taster sessions!

Crown green taster sessions are held on Saturday mornings between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Members of the club will be on hand to guide you so you can have a go. All you need is a flat pair of shoes, and they provide the rest (including refreshments). Crown Green bowling at Worksop Cricket Club plays in leagues from April to late September.

On the Flat Green, the Club are hosting the bowls bash! This is designed to bring a new, fun format to the game.

And look out for the Big Bowls Weekend, organised by Bowls England, on Spring Bank Holiday. This recruitment event will be followed by coaching and practice sessions throughout the summer. All equipment will be provided but players should wear trainers or flat soled shoes.

Flat Green Bowling is open from mid-April until late September and provides the opportunity for both social and competitive bowls in three leagues, on what is generally accepted to be the best green in the area. Club teams play in three leagues – a Thursday Afternoon Pairs League and Triples leagues on Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evening.

Squash

The Club also boasts two squash courts with a viewing gallery. Following the 2019 floods, the entire section was refurbished with state of the art sprung floors, and new carpets. The changing rooms and small, but comprehensive gym have air conditioning and a sauna.

Squash is an exciting, fun and challenging sport that can help you stay fit and it’s accessible to all ages and abilities. Even on the coldest winter days, the heaters ensure both courts remain at a comfortable temperature.

Techniques and tactics for racketball are similar, but the ball and racket are larger; the ball has more bounce, rallies can be longer and the game is played at a slower pace than conventional squash.

Members can book courts by using the screen in the corridor near the gym using a key fob which is also used to access the building and enable the light meter to function.

They are always looking for new or returning members to the section. So if you’d like to take up a new challenge or return to squash, please get in touch!

Their bar is open seven days a week and friendly staff are able to give more information about any of their sports memberships. Alternatively, visit www.worksopcricketandsportsclub.co.uk, email worksopcricketclub@gmail.com or find Worksop Cricket and Sports Club on Facebook.
