Inner Wheel Retford’s recent Charter lunch was a real winner!
Everyone dressed for an ‘Afternoon at the Races’ (no betting – just an afternoon of fun). Many racegoers wore fabulous hats that we hired from Hire a Hat – a business run by Treasurer Helen. Any money Helen raises she donates to the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
After a delicious lunch, there was a light-hearted table quiz hosted by ‘Lady’ Dorothy (a member) and ‘Sir’ Ian (from the Aurora Wellbeing Centre, Worksop). Contestants were under starter’s orders and the challenge was to make fantastic hats from kitchen foil. It was amazing what wonderful head gear can be fashioned from simple baking foil!
Their assistants for the afternoon were President Carol and Treasurer Helen, who were both appropriately dressed in jockey silks. Carol’s colours were those of Inner Wheel (blue and yellow). The many hats were then modelled to the delight of all.
It was a fantastic celebration of Inner Wheel and demonstrated the combination of friendship and service which makes this organisation such a success worldwide.
