Early summer is a wonderful time in the garden and a great month to visit open gardens. Those welcoming visitors for the Nottinghamshire National Garden Scheme in June include:
Saturday 8th June, 10.00am to 4.30pm
Combined opening: Hills Farm, Edingley NG22 8BU and The Old Vicarage, Halam NG22 8AX
Hills Farm was created with a passion to produce a delightful walk in six acres of Nottinghamshire hay meadow, carpeted with colourful wildflowers – on a mixed organic farm. Talk to the farmer, John Hill about his passion for organic farming.
The Old Vicarage is a two-acre mature and much-admired hillside garden with wildlife pond to complement the planting. Beautiful views across open countryside and new area of planting at the bottom of the garden.
Thursday 20th June, 10.00am to 3.30pm
Rhubarb Farm, Hardwick Street, Langwith NG20 9DR
This two-acre horticultural enterprise provides training and volunteering opportunities to 60 members of the local community some with special needs. Home to hens, pigs, donkeys, and a pony, it also highlights a wealth of horticultural practices and grows flowers, fruit and vegetables and eggs for sale. This is also an opportunity to meet and chat with the volunteers.
Saturday 22nd June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm
Clyde House, 23 Westgate, Southwell NG25 0JN
Secret, intriguing, organic walled garden in the centre of Southwell. The formal area to the rear of the house mirrors the wisteria-clad Georgian house with a 13th / 14th century listed stone arch. See a sweeping lawn with circular herbaceous borders and follow steps through to beautiful wildflower meadow, wildlife pond, fruit, veg and cut flower beds with greenhouse.
Saturday 22nd June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm
New: Langford Hall, Langford NG23 7RS
Built in 1774, Langford Hall is a grade II listed house with a large garden displaying large perennial flower beds. A rose garden has a central lily pond and, in the courtyard, stands a majestic mulberry tree. There is a highly productive orchard and vegetable garden and a woodland trail to explore.
Sunday 30th June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm
Group opening: Norwell Gardens NG23 6JX
This is the 28th year that Norwell has opened a range of different, very appealing gardens all making use of the superb backdrop of a quintessentially English countryside village including the village allotments and parish gardens and a garden and nursery of national renown. This time, visit four breathtaking village gardens showing the diversity that is achieved in the cottage garden style. The Medieval church and churchyard are also open.
Sunday 30th June, 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Ossington House, Moorhouse Road, Ossington NG23 6LD
Vicarage garden redesigned in 1960 and again in 2014, featuring sweeping lawns, formal beds and terraces, herbaceous perennials, roses and kitchen garden. Go on a woodland walk with mature trees and shady planting with masses of astrantia, and ferns. Disabled parking in drive of Ossington House.
