Garden Party in aid of Singing with Dementia

by | 4 September 2021 | Support Group, Worksop

Singing With Dementia will restart at The Crossing Church and Centre, Worksop on Wednesday 22nd September at 2.00pm. Anyone who is living with dementia is invited to join in an afternoon of singing.
Roger and Denise Marsden, who recently moved to Shireoaks, held a garden party at their home on Monks Way on Saturday 17th July in aid of the Singing With Dementia group.
It was a glorious day of bright sunshine. Visitors enjoyed tea, slices of homemade cake and scones with jam and clotted cream. There was bric-a-brac, plant, craft and homemade jam stalls, guess the name of the knitted sailor and a tombola.
Friends and neighbours old and new supported the event. There was a wonderful atmosphere and everyone had a great time together. Due to everyone being extremely generous, the magnificent amount of £105 was raised. Thanks to all those who attended or donated.
On Friday 6th August, Denise Marsden and Anne Roake (fundraisers) presented the cheque Jean Roberts, the founder of the Singing with Dementia group.
Whilst Jean was watching a TV programme about music and singing; how it can help people with dementia and also help those caring for them, the Singing with Dementia group was born.
Jean thought it would be the perfect way to remember a good friend of hers who had died as a result of dementia. His wife had attended the ‘Care for Carers’ group at the Crossing Church.
The planned dates for the group’s upcoming meetings are Wednesday 22nd September, Tuesday 26th October, Tuesday 7th December.
New Dementia Café
A Dementia Café is to open at The Crossing on Thursday 2nd September from 10.30am to 12.00pm. This will then be open every Thursday. Anyone who is living with dementia is invited to join them for refreshments and activities.
