The Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green are a volunteer group supporting Nottinghamshire County Council in managing the Woodlands and Coachwood Green in Shireoaks. The group focuses on conserving and enhancing biodiversity, sharing the site’s heritage, offering educational opportunities, and providing recreational activities for the benefit of the local community.
The group is dependent on enthusiastic individuals, and everyone is welcome to join. Whether gardening, DIY, nature appreciation or simply enjoying the outdoors is your interest, task days offer a great opportunity to get involved. Activities vary throughout the year and include scrub clearance, litter picking, hedge laying, mulching, and more.
Alternatively, volunteers can take on regular roles such as wildlife monitoring and other conservation tasks.
It’s a great way to meet new people and make a difference – you never know where your volunteering journey might lead!
The current project, the Wildlife Discovery Area, is designed as a space for exploring and learning about local habitats and species. It is open to the public and available for use by community groups and schools.
A Family Nature Day will be held at the Wildlife Discovery Area, Marina Drive, Shireoaks, on Sunday 27th July from 10.30am to 3.00pm.
In partnership with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, the National Trust, British Dragonfly Society, Chesterfield Canal Trust, Nottinghamshire Bat Group and Nottinghamshire Amphibian and Reptile Group, the event will offer activities such as pond dipping, butterfly counts and nature hunts – providing an engaging way to learn more about local wildlife.
All are welcome to attend – no expertise is required, just enthusiasm and curiosity!
