The Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green are delighted to share an update on their exciting community arts project, which will create a new centrepiece for the Woodlands Summit. The sculpture will celebrate the history and heritage of Shireoaks while reflecting what the Woodlands and Coachwood Green means to the community today.

Community engagement sessions are now in full swing. The group recently attended the St Luke’s, Shireoaks Christmas Market, where visitors had the opportunity to meet the artist and share their ideas for what the new sculpture should represent. If you missed this event, another session will be held on Friday 5th December at 7.00pm, hosted by the Ticking Clock Brewery in Shireoaks. Everyone is welcome to go along and share their ideas. If you can’t make it, there will still be opportunities to get involved in the new year. Follow @friendsofwoodlandsandcoachwoodgreen on Facebook to stay informed.

While work on the arts project continues, volunteers will be taking a short winter break after a busy autumn season tidying the site and building wildlife havens and log piles. These efforts help provide food, shelter, and hibernation spaces for species such as newts, beetles, and hedgehogs over the colder months.

Volunteer task days will return in the new year. Whether you’re a gardener, DIY enthusiast, nature lover, or simply enjoy the outdoors, these sessions offer a great chance to meet people, learn new skills, and make a difference. The group meets once a month, and full details can be found at www.woodlandsandcoachwoodgreen.co.uk/news/volunteer-with-us. Those who prefer to help with organisation, fundraising, or financial management are also encouraged to get in touch.

The Friends would like to thank everyone who has supported them over the past year and wish all friends and followers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
