There are several events for children and adults to enjoy this month at Worksop Library.
Draw Along With Korky Paul
Saturday 5th February, 2.00pm to 3.00pm
Join in with children’s illustrator Korky Paul’s fun draw-along session. Hear about Korky’s work as illustrator of the hugely successful Winnie and Wilbur series, watch how he creates his illustrations and have a go yourself! The session is suitable for children aged five and over. Tickets are £2.00 per child (accompanying adults are free). Places are limited so booking is highly advised – booking details below.
Jazz Steps at the Library: Tom Ollendorff Trio
Tuesday 15th February, 7.30pm to 9.30pm
Guitar trios like this have always been taken to the hearts of jazz audiences. Clean, lyrical lines and varieties of mood can take audiences from the city’s excitement to open spaces and dreams. This jazz trio is the perfect vehicle for such a journey, with Conor Chaplin on bass and Dave Hamblett on drums. Tom’s mastery of his instrument has projected him into the top tier of young guitar maestros on the UK music scene. Tickets are £12.00.
Family theatre: Curious Investigators
Friday 18th February
In the show, Scribble and Clipboard have a job to do: sort the recycling. But Scribble keeps finding new things to investigate. When she discovers a mysterious egg hidden in the rubbish, the pair need the audience’s help to rescue an unborn chick. Can we save a mysterious egg from a smashing? And what will we discover along the way? Curious Investigators is a cracking adventure created in collaboration with engineering experts from Lancaster University: a delightfully surprising, highly visual show aimed at children aged between three and seven (and their grown-ups!). There are performances at 11.30am and 2.00pm. Tickets are £3.00 for library members and £6.00 for non-members. Booking details below.
Breaking the News Exhibition
24th February to 19th April
The library will be hosting a free display from the British Library that will run alongside the British Library’s major new exhibition, Breaking the News. Visitors to Worksop Library will also be able to enjoy Breaking the Nottinghamshire News, a free exhibition celebrating news stories from the county, explored through the resources in Nottinghamshire Libraries Local Studies and Archives collections.
Breaking the News Launch event
Thursday 24th February, 6.00pm to 8.00pm
The library is excited to be hosting a special Breaking the News launch event, with a live link up event across the Living Knowledge Network of public and national libraries. Coming live from the stunning central hall at Leeds Library, the event will be live streamed to library audiences across the UK. Join this national conversation in Worksop Library and explore how we all have a voice to tell our own stories and influence a bigger picture. Joining the stream from Leeds will be James Mitchinson of the Yorkshire Post, journalist Rachel Horne and other special guests to explore the significance of regional news at the heart of communities. The event will be chaired by journalist and Channel 4 Newsreader, Fatima Manji. Light refreshments will be served before the live link up. This event at Worksop Library is free to attend but booking is essential – booking details below.
