Lost Words of Nottinghamshire: Exhibition and Dialect Poetry Writing Workshop
From 9th June to 12th July, visitors to Worksop Library’s Gallery will be able to see ‘Lost Words of Nottinghamshire’, a brilliant new touring exhibition supported by Inspire Libraries and Miner2Major funding.

Our language is an important part of our local identity and there are many dialect words which are typical of Nottinghamshire. Language is constantly changing, and often younger people may not be aware of such words and therefore some of these words might soon disappear.

Inspire worked with Linguistics Professor Natalie Braber, poet Andrew Graves, illustrator Hannah Sawtell and local school children to create this exhibition of dialect words from Nottinghamshire. See how many you words you know!
And don’t miss the chance to get creative with your own Notts words at Andrew Graves’ Poetry Writing Workshop on Saturday 18th June from 10.00am to 12.00pm. Join him for a weird and wonderful journey through the Nottinghamshire dialect and have a go at constructing poetry and stories using old, familiar and lost terms and expressions! This will be a fun, creative workshop for participants age 16+ at all levels of experience with plenty of chat, feedback and practical activities.
The exhibition is free to visit during library opening hours. Tickets for Andrew Graves’ workshop cost £5.00.
