Jazz Steps Live: Zoe Gilby Quartet
This month’s Jazz Steps Live on Tuesday 11th November, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, features Zoë Gilby – an exuberant jazz singer and songwriter, winner of Parliamentary Jazz Awards Vocalist of the Year 2019. Enjoy her evocative story-telling delivery, backed by a superb trio, with her wide repertoire encompassing jazz standards, intelligent original songs and innovative arrangements of pop tunes. This is an adult event (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult). Tickets can be purchased for £13.00 and booking is highly advised.
Family Concert: Roots of Music
On Saturday 15th November at 1.00pm, don’t miss Roots of Music. This interactive family concert will have you clapping, tapping, and maybe even dancing along as you discover how different cultures have influenced everything from pop and jazz to hip hop and classical music. After the concert, the fun continues with a hands-on session where children can try out a variety of instruments and make some music of their own. The concert is suitable for children aged seven to 11 and their grown-ups. Tickets are £4.00 (library members) or £7.00 (non-library members). Booking is advised.
Heritage Talk: WWI Sergeant William Henry Johnson VC
William Henry Johnson was a miner at Manton Colliery and a bell ringer at Worksop Priory before enlisting for service in the First World War. In this fascinating talk on Wednesday 19th November at 2.00pm, learn more about the man, his life, and his remarkable act of bravery in the field which earned him Britain’s highest military award, the Victoria Cross. Following Grant Cullen’s talk, which will last approximately 45 minutes, there will be chance to explore historical records relating to WWI servicemen from the local area, including newspaper reports, photographs and more. Will you find a First World War ancestor? Tickets for the talk are £3.00 and booking is highly advised.
Worksop Library’s Christmas Market
Don’t miss Worksop Library’s Christmas Market on Saturday 29th November, 9.30am to 2.00pm. Browse handmade items from local makers, enjoy indulgent treats and take part in an array of family activities. With seasonal crafts and live music, there’s no better place to spend the festive season! You can also enjoy refreshments from Jeanilious at the Coffee Terrace. Entry to the Christmas Market is free and

Free Family Workshops: I am a Storyteller
Throughout the month of November, Inspire will be running free creative writing workshops at libraries across the county. With the guidance of a professional storyteller, you’ll have the chance to explore your creativity in a relaxed and welcoming environment. There’ll be space for you to share your thoughts and stories and to try different types of storytelling. No previous writing experience is necessary, and this is all about trying something new and having a go.
The workshops are taking place at the following Bassetlaw libraries:
Harworth and Bircotes: Saturday 1st November, 10.00am to 12.00pm with storyteller, Laura Mabbutt
Langold: Saturday 15th November, 10.00am to 12.00pm with storyteller Ling Peng
Worksop: Saturday 22nd November, 10.00am to 12.00pm with storyteller, Rebecca Dye
