Jazz Steps Live: Threeway

Threeway will be performing at Worksop Library’s next jazz night on Tuesday 15th April at 7.30pm. Audiences can enjoy melodic and subtle chamber jazz as featured on their album HARKEN!

The trio’s 20-year musical partnership is evident in their togetherness – jazz that is ‘clear and precise yet full of delicacy and feeling’. The line-up includes Steve Lodder on keyboards, Ben Crosland on electric bass and Steve Waterman on trumpet and flugelhorn.

Tickets are available for £13.00, and early booking is highly advised. This is an adult event (under-18s must be accompanied by an adult).

Heritage Talk: Rogues, Vagabonds or Heroes? The Story of the Rufford Park Poachers

Life for working-class families in the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign was anything but easy. While families struggled to feed themselves, the forest and heathlands of Sherwood were full of wildlife that could supplement their diets. However, new laws made taking this wildlife a criminal offence that could lead to severe punishment.

This month’s talk by local historian Sam Millard on Wednesday 16th April from 2.00pm to 3.00pm recounts a violent clash between poachers and gamekeepers on the Rufford Abbey estate – an incident reported in newspapers across the country. What happened to those involved? Were they the rogues and vagabonds as described by the courts, or the heroes portrayed in a folk song written at the time?

Tickets for the talk are £3.00, and early booking is highly advised, as heritage talks tend to sell out quickly.
