Jazz Steps Live: A Sketch of Chat – A Tribute of Chet Baker

A celebration of Chet Baker that captures the essence of this mesmerising musician – a lyrical trumpeter and sultry vocalist – who redefined modern jazz and became the embodiment of effortless cool. His classic album, Chet Baker Sings, remains a touchstone for jazz aficionados and casual listeners alike. A Sketch of Chet is more than a tribute – it’s an homage to a legend, brought to life by the Simon Paterson Quartet – musicians who truly understand the art of cool. Don’t miss this chance to experience the music that defined an era.

Tickets cost £13.00 and early booking is highly advised. This is an adult event (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).

Heritage Talk: Nottinghamshire Gallows and Gibbets

Wednesday 19th March, 2.00pm to 3.00pm

A fascinating look at the history of the gallows and capital crimes with a focus on Nottinghamshire. Planning Archaeologist Emily Gillott will present some of the known gallows and gibbet sites in the county and what remains of them, from Thieves Dale to Gallows Nooking. She will explore medicine and the hanged corpse, from an age when science and magic were intertwined.

Content warning: the talk will discuss death, injustice, and corpses The aim is to sensitively highlight some of the beliefs and realities of the past, but some may find these topics difficult. Tickets are £3.00 and early booking is highly advised.

Under 5s Event: Magical Missions!

Saturday 22nd March, 2.00pm

Step into the legendary world of the Magical Major Oak as spring arrives in the forest and join Marion in a playful practical workshop. Children will love this unique chance to physically explore stories, characters and landscapes led by the theatre making team from Nottingham Playhouse. This workshop session will unleash your child’s imagination and stimulate the senses by using music, movement, puppetry, crafting, and sensory play.

The workshop, which lasts 45 minutes, is suitable for children aged two to four and their grown-ups. Tickets are £2.00 per person and booking is advised.
