Worksop Library’s Christmas Market
Worksop Library’s Christmas market is taking place on Saturday 30th November from 10.00am to 2.00pm. Attendees can enjoy indulgent treats from local bakers and explore stalls offering handmade items, including art, candles, wreaths, and jewellery. There will be free Christmas crafts provided by Now Church and From the Heart Charity, as well as the opportunity to use the popular badge-making machine to create a festive badge. Live music will also feature, and Father Christmas will be on hand to meet and chat with children.
Entry to the Christmas market is free, and no booking is required – just drop by!
Jazz Steps Live: Pete Donaldson Blues Band
The Pete Donaldson Blues Band returns to Worksop Library by popular demand on Tuesday 10th December at 7.30pm. The band draws inspiration from classic blues artists, including BB King, Albert and Freddie King, as well as more contemporary musicians like Jimmie Vaughan, Ronnie Earl, and Bruce Katz. Attendees can look forward to classics such as Route 66 and The Stumble, as well as unique renditions of lesser-known tunes like Anne Peebles’ I Can’t Stand the Rain and John Scofield’s take on Ray Charles’ I Don’t Need No Doctor.

Family History Course
Are you interested in tracing your family tree but unsure where to begin?
Inspire’s six-week course, Researching Your Family History: An Introduction, returns to Worksop Library after a fully-booked session earlier in the year. The course starts on Saturday 18th January from 10.00am to 12.00pm and runs every Saturday until 22nd February. It is designed for beginners in family history, introducing the main types of records available for research. Participants will learn where to find family history documents and online resources, developing research skills to help interpret their findings.
The course covers useful sources for tracing family history, including indexes, original records, and various online resources, with a focus on records from England and Wales. Topics include civil registration records, census returns, the 1939 Register, and parish records. Additionally, the course will provide a brief introduction to other resources, such as newspapers, trade directories, electoral registers, and wills / probate records. Participants will gain practical skills through sample documents and case studies, along with search strategies and tips on organising research.
