April’s instalment of Jazz Steps Live at the Library comes from vintage blues band, Leeds City Stompers. Join them on Tuesday 16th April at 7.30pm to 9.30pm for a ‘retro’ evening of 1920s and 1930s blues, jazz, swing and ragtime. With their beloved 1930s’ drum kit, shiny resonator guitar, tweed suits, washboard, double bass, banjo and brogues, this life-affirming trio are infectiously wild about the music of yesteryear. Tickets can be purchased for £13.00 and booking is highly advised.

If you’re interested in local history, don’t miss this month’s heritage talk, ‘The Rise of the Dukeries’, on Wednesday 17th April at 2.00pm. The four Dukeries have had an enduring effect on the Bassetlaw region but how did they come into being? Benedict Jephcote reveals how each of the ducal areas developed; through the large-scale changes of the dissolution and civil war, the fates of various bloodlines, and the creation and losses of some of the grandest buildings to grace the East Midlands. Tickets for this talk are £3.00 and early booking is highly advised.

Finally, on Saturday 27th April at 2.00pm, join children’s author and illustrator Loretta Schauer for a session packed full of fun and creativity! Watch Loretta bring some of her characters to life as she draws them and then be inspired to create your own creatures and characters that could feature in your own stories. Loretta is the illustrator of Welcome to Dinosaur School, Rabunzel and Cindergorilla amongst many others. Tickets are £3.00 per child (accompanying adults are free) and booking is highly advised. Please note – Loretta will be running the same session at Retford Library on Saturday 27th April at 10.30am.

Tickets for all these events can be booked by visiting Worksop Library, calling Ask Inspire on 01623 677200, or booking online at www.inspireculture.org.uk.
