Does the thought of playing in a band excite or terrify you? Whatever the answer, the Dukeries Community Band could be the place for you to grow your musical skills and enjoy yourself at the same time.
This community wind band comprises brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. They don’t audition; new players are welcome to come down to any rehearsals to join in straight away or just to listen. They are always happy to have new players, of any age. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while, or have started to learn fairly recently, although you must be able to read music.
Musical Director Ray Jones has a most impressive musical background. His extensive musical experience has come from serving 37 years in the Army and in more recent times working with Belper Town Wind Band, where he continues as their Musical Director. Ray is highly enthusiastic, has a great sense of humour and a brilliant motivational technique.
The Band would especially welcome more brass players, ie trumpet / cornet, euphonium / baritone, French horn and trombone players. They are also seeking flute players and percussionists in particular (they have a full drum kit available), so if you’re interested in joining they we would love to hear from you at dukeriescommband@btinternet.com.
The Band rehearses each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Their ever-increasing repertoire features pop to classical with lots in between, so there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.
Concerts support the local community and charities, and the group is always happy to hear from organisations who would like to book them.
