Daneshill Sailing Club Open Day

As the summer rapidly approaches and we all start thinking about how to spend our weekends, Daneshill Sailing Club are again opening their doors and inviting anyone who has ever thought about getting in a boat to go along and have a go as part of a Royal Yachting Association Discover Sailing event.

Daneshill Sailing Club invites you and your family to enjoy a free sailing experience on Sunday 21st May as the club again hosts anyone-welcome taster sessions.

Starting at 11.00am until 4.00pm, the Club’s members and instructors will be available to take you out on the water to experience dinghy sailing first hand. They would recommend taking a change of clothes just in case, as it is possible you may get a little wet. Booking is not necessary but you may need to wait if it is busy. However, there is plenty to see and do on the bank.

The club is situated within Daneshill Lakes Nature Reserve, near Retford, between Torworth and Lound. The club sails on the main lake, and although sailing activities began at Daneshill in 1973, the sailing club as it now exists was formed in 1988 to provide the development of outdoor activities for schools in the Retford area.

The lake was originally excavated as part of the amenity development of the nature reserve in the eighties and now has a number of scenic walks and picnic friendly areas all within easy reach of the lakeside.

The site is owned by Nottinghamshire County Council and managed on their behalf by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, who have made great efforts to improve the site in recent years. The number of visitors to the Nature Reserves continues to increase especially as it is very close to the Idle Valley Centre which caters for all manner of wildlife enthusiasts.

If you like the idea of a fun hobby in the fresh air in a family orientated club then go along and give it a go, you might find you are hooked. Find out more at www.daneshillsailingclub.co.uk.
